Generally, people aren’t so aware of the many kinds of equipment’s that are used in the mechanical sector. The various equipment comprises distinct components, one such element that’s widely used is the stainless steel flanges.
Flanges are used to combine two components of machines together. Hence it’s a very important part that holds the item in place. It might also be an extension of a structure which is used to offer strength to the item. One of its various applications, industrial flanges are primarily used for connecting pumps, pipes, sheets and several other types of structures that need an intermediate linking point.
Like any other mechanical equipment, these stainless steel flanges are also available in different types to suit the varied requirements. Some of the types are explained below:
Weld Neck Flanges: these sorts of flanges are those which are attached to the neck of the pipe. The flange is welded in such a way that its thickness is equal to the measurements of the pipe to which it’s connected to. Such flanges are normally used for high-pressure applications.
Socket Weld Flanges: Socket weld flanges are the ones which are used as shoulders for the pipe to rest on. They consist of an outer bore which is used to fit the pipe.
Girth Flange: Such a flange is used to combine various sections of a pressure vessel. The size and the layout are based on the specifications of the vessels for which it’s used to connect.
Lap Joints: these sorts of flanges are used in these programs that require dismantling on a regular basis. These are welded to the stub end and may be rotated freely.
Ring Joint: These joints are attached to the pipes without welding. They generally have a raised surface with ring socket machined into it.
Stainless steel flanges can be found in various sizes and grades like F 304, 304L, 304H, 309S, 309H, 310S, 310H, 316, 316TI, 316H, 316L, 316LN etc.. These ranges represent the standard of characteristics that the steel is needed to comply with. They have an influence on the functioning of the steel.
