What to look for when buying VPS hosting

VPS hostingDo you own your own website and have been using shared hosting? Is your traffic increasing, and your website is slowing down? If so, it may be time to move to VPS hosting to get some extra power. Before you do, though, make sure you know what to look for, or your website could end up slower than it was before.

How much bandwidth does the package offer?

When you choose a specific package for VPS hosting, be sure to pick one with a decent amount of bandwidth. Bandwidth determines how much traffic your site can handle before the host company shuts it down. One terabyte is usually a good place to start, as you can increase it as traffic on your site picks up.

What about disk space?

As websites grow, they can take up quite a bit of disk space. That is particularly true in this age of mass video content. Unlimited disk space is excellent but, if you do not have the money to spend on that option yet, start out with at least 120 gigabytes. That will give you plenty of room to grow.

How many CPU cores does the package include?

The number and power of the CPU cores determines how fast your website is. Two cores is better than one, and four would be terrific.

The best way to get good hosting for any VPS option is to do your homework. Shop around. Be sure the hosting packages you are looking at include decent options, and that you can upgrade easily as your website grows.
